Jomary Torres vows to improve after another disappointing loss

By Kevin Estrada

Ritu Phogat solidified her credentials as the rising star of the women’s atomweight division, after she knocked out Jomary Torres cold to open ONE Championship: Big Bang Friday evening at the Singapore indoor stadium

The scion of a fabled wrestling family, the Indian Tigress won her fourth straight bout with the promotion to remain spotless, as she makes her serious case for the Grand Prix next year with her technical knockout over the female standout of the Catalan Fighting Systems.

Phogat fired the first major hit of the fight with a right straight to the head of Torres, and as she took down the Zamboanga native to the ground, there was no stopping her with her pound and ground game, forcing referee Justin Brown to call a stop to the proceedings with 1:05 remaining in the opening round.

With the division packed with contenders even with titleholder Angela Lee taking a break, the Evolve MMA fighter was not in a rush on who should she will face next, after wrapping up the year with a flourish.

“There’s no a particular name that I want to pin down right now. But I think every opponent that I face in the circle is a challenge,” Phogat remarked after the. “I will consider every opponent that comes in the way as the dream opponent.”

The disappointment was in the face of Torres as she wrapped up her year with a stinging defeat which extend her skid to five, in which she opened 2020 with a no-contest at Fire and Fury against Taiwan’s Jenny Huang.

“Malungkot dahil hindi pinalad sa gabi na ito.” she admitted, with the lockdown in the country did not help her build-up either in which she hopes to improve once she returns to training.

“Dapat may disiplina din sa sarili,” she added.
