The University of Sto. Tomas Golden Tigresses swept the University of the East Lady Warriors in straight sets, 25-19, 25-9, 25-17 in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

UST registered an 11-2 card, their best elimination round record since Season 72 when they last won the championship.

Rookie of the year candidate Angge Poyos dropped 25 points in just three sets, built on 21 attacks, three service aces, and a kill block. Team captain Detdet Pepito carried the defensive end with 13 excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions.

It was a dominating win by the Golden Tigresses where they were able to limit the production of UE’s Casiey Dongallo to just seven points. KC Zepada led the Lady Warriors with nine markers.

UST will have La Salle as their last assignment, where both teams will break an 11-2 record for higher chances in clinching the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four match-up.
