The University of Sto. Tomas Golden Tigresses secured at least a playoff spot for the Final Four after fending off the Adamson University Lady Falcons in four sets, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Rookie sensation Angge Poyos tallied her UAAP career-high and entered the 30-point hall of famers, finishing the game with 31 points on 27 attacks, three service aces, and a kill block.

Coming from a loss against NU, UST struggled and lost the first set after wasting a six-point lead. Following some adjustments in the rotation, the Golden Tigresses recovered in the second set, and escaped the Lady Falcons in a tight third frame.

Adamson forced a deuce in the third, but thanks to Bianca Plaza’s clutch attack and service ace, UST was able to get the 2-1 advantage.

It was all UST in the fourth set as Poyos, Reg Jurado, and Jonna Perdido combined forces to get their ninth win this season.

Jurado and Perdido contributed with 12 points apiece, while Detdet Pepito also had a productive output in defense with 17 excellent receptions and 21 excellent digs.

Meanwhile, Barbie Jamili topscored for Adamson with 20 points as they fell down to a 2-7 win-loss card.
