After a heartbreaking loss last season, the National University Lady Bulldogs are back as the Queens in the UAAP women’s volleyball after completing the championship series sweep against the University of Sto. Tomas Golden Tigresses, 25-23, 23-25, 27-25, 25-16, Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Following an impressive performance in Game 1, Alyssa Solomon led the Lady Bulldogs in their quest for redemption as she tallied 27 points on 20 attacks, four kill blocks, and three service aces, earning her the Finals MVP award.

Season 84 ROY-MVP Bella Belen has been hailed as the Season 86 MVP where she displayed an all-around performance in Game 2 with 19 points, 11 excellent digs, and nine excellent receptions.

Belen kept NU alive particularly in the third set where they were down 20-23, before she came alive to lead a come-from-behind win and stole the set, 27-25.

After a dramatic third set win, the Lady Bulldogs capitalized on the momentum and never looked back in the fourth with a huge margin. A middle attack from Sheena Toring has sealed their second championship in three seasons.

Meanwhile, Xyza Gula stepped up for UST’s ROY Angge Poyos where she registered her UAAP career-high 18 points. Jonna Perdido also had 14, while Reg Jurado and Em Banagua both finished with 13 points each.

It’s a double celebration for the National University as their men’s volleyball team also bagged their fourth consecutive championship, winning against UST in four sets.
