San Sebastian ousts JRU, keeps final four bid alive

Manila, Philippines – San Sebastian College-Recoletos was nowhere near giving up their final four hopes alive as they beat down Jose Rizal University, 82-75 on Thursday in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

San Sebastian left the JRU from the get go with a 23-9 outburst in the first quarter. However, the Heavy Bombers were quick on their feet as they inched to five in the second for a 34-39 score.

Jed Mendoza tried to lift his team, but his two consecutive baskets were not enough as San Sebastian powered a 7-2 run to keep them ahead, 47-43.

The Golden Stags’ energy did not falter until the end-game to clinch their fourth win in the season. They now stand at 4-9 win-loss record, all the while eliminating the Heavy Bombers from the final four bid as JRU dropped to season-low of 2-11 slate.

Allyn Bulanadi led San Sebastian with 27 points and six rebounds, while RK Ilagan added a double-double record of 16 points and 11 boards.

Alvin Capobres and Michael Calisaan also chipped in double-digits of 14 points and 12 points, respectively, with the latter adding five rebounds and four assists in his record.

On the other hand, Darius Estrella had 19 points and Mendoza added 15 in the losing effort.
