The San Beda Red Lions battled it out against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers to take a close 58-48 win, Friday in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre.

San Beda was able to take the win, despite the odds were out on their favor as four players had an upset stomach.

Red Lions JB Bahio and Ben Adamos had already been confined in the hospital due to vomiting, while Robert Bolick and Calvin Oftana also suffer from vomiting and severe diarrhea, but decided to try and play for the team still.

Bolick was able to notch six points, six rebounds and five assists in 22 minutes.

With four players down for San Beda, Clint Doliguez took the job to step up and lead the squad and finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. Javee Mocon added another seven points and 15 rebounds for the win.

San Beda was able to limit JRU to only four points in the second quarter, 28-14.

The Red Lions still took another win, despite being out-rebounded with 52-44 and also a depressing 9-for-23 shooting from the free throw line.

“We were murdered in the free throws and in the rebounding, but still we won the game probably because of our defense in the second quarter,” said Coach Boyet Fernandez. “We have to learn from this.”

Karl Bordon led the Heavy Bombers with 13 points.

San Beda had their fourth consecutive win, and their fifth out of six outings in the season. They clings on the second place behind Lyceum Pirates. On the other hand, the Heavy Bombers falls down to a 2-3 win-loss record in the tournament.

San Beda will face Mapua on Friday, August 11, while JRU will take on EAC Generals on Tuesday, August 15.
