Mapua snaps three-game losing streak with win over EAC

Manila, Philippines – Despite being thrown out of the Final Four competition, the Mapua University still made the best out of their last remaining games and defeated Emilio Aguinaldo College, 80-67, on Friday in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Cardinals snapped their three-game losing skid to claim seventh place in the tournament with a 5-11 win-loss record.

Mapua was down two points in the first quarter, but quickly recovered in the second period as they took a 20-9 rally that placed them past the Generals.

However, EAC was not just about to give up the game and inched within two in the third, 50-52.

Laurenz Victoria and Noah Lugo saw what needed to be done and orchestrated a 10-point rally that left the Generals for good.

Lugo paved the way for the Cardinals with 18 points and four assists, while Victoria finished with 15 markers, six assists, four rebounds and four steals.

On the other hand, Hamadou Laminou led EAC with a double-double record of 21 points and 13 rebounds.

MAPUA 80 – Lugo 18, Victoria 15, Bonifacio 11, Biteng 8, Serrano 7, Aguirre 6, Pelayo 5, Gamboa 4, Bunag 4, Jabel 2, Salenga 0, Nieles 0.

EAC 67 – Laminou 21, Magullano 15, Garcia 10, Bautista 6, Mendoza 6, Gonzales 4, Tampoc 3, Cadua 2, Corilla 0, Natividad 0, Neri 0, Bugarin 0.

QUARTER SCORES: 13-15, 33-24, 52-50, 80-67.
