The De La Salle University Lady Spikers swept the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons in straight sets, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24, for their second straight win this season in UAAP women’s volleyball , Saturday, at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.

All throughout the match, La Salle needed to catch up with the scoring of UP led by the duo of batchmates Isa Molde and Tots Carlos.

What could be the turning point of the game though was the controversial call during the first set, where UP led 19-18.

The dig of Desiree Cheng went all the way to the other side of the net, then Dawn Macandili attempted to ran for the ball. But the libero of UP unconsciously blocked Macandili, leading to a collision between the two liberos. Despite not being able to reach the ball, the first referee still awarded the point to La Salle due to interference.

Down 0-2 in the match, the Lady Maroons quickly pulled away in the third frame with a 17-10 lead, only to have it trimmed down with La Salle chasing them. UP was able to recover and reach match point, 24-21, but the Majoy Baron quick hit and Isa Molde error, cut down the lead again, 24-23.

From there, it was all Michelle Cobb doing the job with three consecutive service aces that completed the come-from-behind win of the defending champions.

La Salle had four players in double-digits, led by the former Finals MVP Kim Dy with 13 points. Cobb also tallied her career-high 10 points highlighted by her 7 service aces.

Tots Carlos topscored for UP with 19 points, while Isa Molde added 10.

Player of the Game: Michelle Cobb, 32 excellent sets and 10 points.
