The Ateneo Blue Eagles kept their clean slate record in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament after beating the University of the East, 83-65 on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Ravena unleashed 21 points, eight rebounds and two assists to lead the Blue Eagles improve to a 4-0 card and hand the Red Warriors their 4th consecutive loss.
UE, however, did not back down from challenging Ateneo as they made a number of runs in the game.
Alvin Pasaol even boosted the Red Warriors after exploding nine consecutive points in the pay off period, while Will Bartolome converted another basket to cut its deficit down to six, 54-60.
“For a minute there, we fell into the trap thinking that they are a 0-3 team,” said Assistant Coach Sandy Arespacochaga. “We can’t say that we had control of the game kasi they made several runs.”
Luckily, Ateneo got their momentum back as Raffy Verano and Mike Nieto combined for a 7-2 run in the last five minutes of the game, 72-59, while Ravena shot another nine points to seal their win.
Matt Nieto added 11 points, while Mike Nieto and Aaron Black had 10 points apiece for the win.
Meanwhile, Pasaol finished with 22 points, as Nick Abanto added 10 points and nine rebounds.
