The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA held a late clutch to take home their first win after conquering Mapua University, 63-60, Thursday in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at Mapua University Gym.

Perpetual had a nine-point advantage in the final quarter, 49-40, when the Cardinals went on a 14-2 run and took the lead, 54-51 with just 4:17 left in the game.

However, AJ Coronel cut the Cardinals’ momentum short after a go-ahead basket that gave the Altas back the lead, 57-56. Keith Pido followed the shot with a perfect assist to Coronel from the three-point line to end the game with a win.

“Yung drive ni Keith Pido, big shot yun and yung kay AJ Coronel yung three points,” said Perpetual Coach Jimwell Gican. “It’s a good win for us, pero gusto ko ibigay yung credit sa captain ball namin, si GJ Ylagan.”

Ylagan led the Altas with 13 points despite feeling unwell during the game, said Gican. 6-foot-11 Prince Eze on the other hand had a double-double 11 points and 21 rebounds.

Coronel added 10 points and nine rebounds while Pido had nine markers, three boards, three assists and two streals.

Mapua on the other hand was led by Leo Gabo with 12 points, while Andoy Estrella and Almel Orquino had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Altas will face the EAC Generals on July 25, Tuesday, while the Cardinals will face Lyceum Pirates on Friday, July 28.
