The University of Santo Tomas Lady Tigresses surpassed the late rally of the Adamson University Lady Falcons in a five-set victory, 25-21, 25-21, 24-26, 24-26, 15-6, for their first win in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, Sunday, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The highly anticipated debut of rookie Eya Laure did not disappoint as she powered the Lady Tigresses to a 2-0 lead in the match. It could have been a straight set win for UST but with their unforced errors piling up in the succeeding frames, Adamson did not hesitate and took advantage to extend the match into five.

UST swiftly reclaimed momentum in the deciding set with a strong 5-0 start. The Lady Falcons tried to adjust, but the firepower of the Lady Tigresses came when it mattered the most, as they held down Adamson to just six points in the fifth set.

Sisi Rondina and Eya Laure led all scorers with 17 points apiece, while last season’s rookie of the year Milena Allesandrini contributed 15 points, including the game-clinching block on Bern Flora.

Bern Flora tallied MVP numbers with a triple-double on 14 points, 13 excellent digs, and 18 excellent receptions.
