USJR halts UC’s run with 26-point rout

CEBU CITY—The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars put an end to the unbeaten start of the Hotel Fortuna-University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters via a resounding 72-46 decision in the high school division of the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Partner’s Cup last Sunday, June 23, at the Cebu Coliseum.

Kendrick Abarquez led the emphatic win by scattering 20 points as the Baby Jaguars listed their second win in three games.

The Baby Jaguars pulled away in the second quarter where it uncorked a 15-5 run to erect a 32-18 lead at the bend.

UC failed to recover from the second quarter slump and wobbled the rest of the way to taste their first defeat after a 3-0 (win-loss) start.

In the other game, the Cebu Landmasters-SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles made it back-to-back by edging out the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers, 75-72.

Improving to 2-1, the Magis Eagles got 13 points apiece from Raymark Nambasa and LA Casinillo and Raymark Nambasa.

In the college division, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers chalked up their second win in as many matches after they handily defeated the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 84-64.

The Warriors succumbed to their second loss in five starts.
