Stags bounce back, earn win without suspended Ilagan

Manila, Philippines – San Sebastian College-Recoletos has reportedly suspended RK Ilagan for the remainder of NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament’s first round for playing in an outside league.

The third year guard is currently under investigation as he also faces a possible three-game suspension from the NCAA league. Baste is also at risk of facing a forfeit from its previous wins against Jose Rizal University and College of St. Benilde, where Ilagan also played.

With a heavy heart, the Stags were still able to come up with a strong defensive and offensive plays against Mapua University and claimed a 94-70 win, Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Baste took control of the game from the start, leading by as much as eight points in the first quarter, 24-16, but the Cardinals managed to cut the lead to one, 40-41.

Alvin Capobres took over and boosted the Stags for an 11-0 run in the third quarter and never looked back as he shot 13 of his 21 points in the fourth, claiming another win for the Baste.

Allyn Bulanadi also helped Capobres lead the pack as he was all over the court with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Cedric Pelayo led Mapua with 15 points.
