San Sebastian defeats Perpetual to vie for fourth spot

San Sebastian Golden Stags forced a three-way tie for the fourth place after conquering Perpetual Altas, 80-60, in their final elimination game of the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament on Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

With the win, San Sebastian ended the elimination round with a 9-9 card to tie with Letran and Arellano.

“Ito na ‘yung bunga ng pinaghirapan ng mga bata and at least nakarating na kami rito. ‘Yung pressure na may chance kami makapasok ng Final Four,” said San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya.

Not wanting to end the tournament without a good fight, San Sebastian made a hot start, 22-14 and dominated the game all throughout, even extended the lead to as much as 25 points, 80-55, late in the final frame.

RK Ilagan topped San Sebastian with 23 points on 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and shooting 8-for-12 shooting from the field, while Michael Calisaan added a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Allyn Bulanadi chipped in nine markers for the win.

“It’s a good learning experience sa mga players and hopefully, we can overcome all concerns when entering the playoffs.”

The Golden Stags will also have to wait for the winner of the knock out match between the Knights and Chiefs on Friday.

Graduating GJ Ylagan led Perpetual with 16 points, while Prince Eze chipped in a double-double record of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Flash Sadiwa, who also plays his last game, had 11 markers in the defeat as Perpetual finished the season on their eight-game losing streak to drop to ninth place with a 4-14 card.
