Perpetual escapes Mapua, claims solo third

Manila, Philippines – A bolder University of Perpetual Help emerged in the first round of NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament and improved big time from last season.

The Altas claimed its third consecutive win after beating Mapua University, 74-68, Thursday in the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Perpetual had an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter when Mapua almost removed its double-digit cushion, 64-66.

Kim Aurin came to the Altas’ rescue and shot two consecutive baskets, followed by a tip in from Prince Eze, to secure back their lead, 70-64.

Aurin recorded a career-high 22 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds, while Eze chipped in a double-double record of 19 points and 19 rebounds.

AJ Coronel added 14 points, five rebounds and two steals as Perpetual climbs up the ladder with a 5-2 win-loss record.

Warren Bonifacio led the Cardinals with his own double-double record of 13 points and 12 rebounds, but his efforts were put to waste as Mapua suffered its fourth straight loss and dropped to a 2-6 slate.
