Lyceum stays unbeaten, bombs JRU into pieces

Manila, Philippines – Lyceum of the Philippines University stays atop the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament after trampling over defenseless Jose Rizal University, 88-56, Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Heavy Bombers managed to keep up in the first quarter, 21-16, but it all spiraled downwards coming into the second period of the game when the Pirates took a ginormous 24-7 run.

Runner-up Lyceum took no mercy against the hapless JRU as they led by as much as 36 points in the third quarter, 71-35 and never looked back.

Pirates’ solid defense forced the Heavy Bombers to commit 34 turnovers, from which Lyceum made 30 points.

Mike Nzeusseu led the Pirates with a double-double record of 21 points and 10 rebounds, while MVP and crowd-favorite CJ Perez finished with 12 points, four boards, five assists and a block.

Meanwhile, Jed Mendoza had 14 points for the Heavy Bombers and Mark Mallari chipped in 10 points in the losing effort.

Lyceum is now up the standings with a 3-0 win-loss record, while JRU was handed their second straight loss in the season.
