After a three-game losing skid, the Letran Knights made their comeback to the winning column after defeating Arellano Chiefs, 84-73 on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre.

Letran ties with EAC at fourth place in the team standings, as they even their slate to a 6-6, while Arellano dropped to a 4-8 card and currently in the eight place.

“At least we broke the record and nakabalik kami sa winning column,” said Letran Coach Jeff Napa.

Napa, who just celebrated his 37th birthday, noted it was a very important win for them, because the teams have been very close at three to six in the team standings, as they battle out for a place in the final four.

Arellano put up a fight for the battle as they cut a 16-point deficit, 58-42, in the third quarter to just six, 79-73, with the help of Rence Alcoriza layup on the final seconds of the match.

It could have been a break for the Chiefs, but an unsportsmanlike foul to MarwinTaywan and a basket by JP Calvo sealed the win for the Knights.

Bong Quinto powered the Knights with a double-double record of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Calvo added another 20 markers, while Rey Nambatac finished with 14 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Kent Salado paced the Chiefs with 23 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Alcoriza added another 10 markers in the defeat.
