In the crucial stretch of the elimination round, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws pulled off a recovery three-set win over the skidding University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses 25-21, 25-21, 25-23 in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, Wednesday, at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.

FEU almost matched their season-high 20 service aces (against Ateneo), tallying 19 in this game to toy the defense of UST. The Lady Tigresses only had 12 excellent service receptions.

Down 0-2, UST tried to rally in the third set to extend the game. They cut down a five-point deficit punctuated by consecutive attacks of Sisi Rondina to tie the game at 23-all, forcing Coach George Pascua to use his two time-outs.

Bernadette Pons then responded with an off-the-block hit followed by a service ace by Cza Carandang to deny the comeback attempt of UST.

Returning rookie Milena Alessandrini who was obviously still adjusting after an injury only had 6 points, behind Sisi Rondina who tallied her lowest output this season with 11 markers.

Bernadette Pons was all over the statistics sheets with MVP numbers built on 13 attacks, 18 excellent digs, and 8 excellent receptions.

Player of the Game: Bernadette Pons, 15 points (13 attacks and 2 service aces)
