Arellano comes from behind to defeat Perpetual

Manila, Philippines – Arellano University bounced back and ended the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament on a high note after winning against University of Perpetual Help, 76-72, Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

After suffering from a 98-79 loss to San Beda last Friday, the Chiefs bounced back and ended the first round campaign with a 4-5 win-loss record.

Down 10 points in the second quarter, 28-38, Arellano came back more determined going in to the second half.

They slowly chipped away the deficit capped off with a Levi Dela Cruz triple that gave them the lead, 70-66. Jeffrey Coronel split his freebies, while Rey Peralta answered back with his own trey to tie the game at 70-all.

With only a minute left, Maui Sera Josef took the matter to his own hands and drove a basket over Prince Eze to get away from the Altas.

Jasper Cuevas tipped in what would have been their last score, as Kraniel Villoria and Dela Cruz sealed the win with their free throw shots.

Villoria led the Chiefs with 15 points, while Sera Josef chipped in 14. Dela Cruz and Archie Concepcion added double-figures as well with 12 and 10 markers, respectively.

On the other hand, Eze led the Altas with a double-double record of 22 points and 25 rebounds as Perpetual Help slipped with a 5-4 slate, 5th place in the team standings.
