The University of the East Lady Warriors proved that their first win was not a sheer luck after tallying another one, this time against the skidding University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses, 25-23, 18-25, 28-26, 26-24 in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, Wednesday, at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.

Save for the second set where UST dominated UE, the Lady Warriors displayed grit and composure in pulling off comebacks to finally get the elusive back-to-back wins.

Trailing 12-15 in the first set, the Lady Tigresses started a 7-0 run highlighted by the four consecutive attacks of Sisi Rondina. Shaya Adorador and Judith Abil then connived and responded for UE and tied the game at 19-all, but Rondina once again carried UST for a 23-21 lead. With Rondina at the backline, the Lady Warriors took advantage and stole the first set.

UE continued its amazing runs in the third and fourth frames. UST already reached set point in both sets only to be dragged by the Lady Warriors into a seesaw battle.

Looking to extend the match, 24-22, the Lady Tigresses’ lead was erased after a block on Cecilia Bangad followed by a crosscourt hit by Adorador. The strong blocking at the net did the job for UE with another two rejections on the attackers of UST to complete another come-from-behind run.

Mary Ann Mendrez led the way for UE with 21 big points, with the help of Shaya Adorador contributing 15 points. Seth Rodriguez and Judith Abil also chipped in 10 points each.

Meanwhile, the efforts of Sisi Rondina who led all scorers with 25 markers were not enough to stop the streaking Lady Warriors.

Player of the Game: Kat Arado, 28 excellent digs and 32 excellent receptions
