The University of the East Lady Warriors defeated the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 20-25, 28-26, 25-23, 25-22 for their first win this UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.

After losing the first set, the Lady Warriors’ tenacity was put into test as their long-time problems in finishing the match haunted them in this match. Fortunately, all the hard work paid off as they were close out the Lady Falcons in the succeeding sets.

UE capitalized on the unforced errors committed by Adamson in the crucial stretch of the game. Jasmine Alcayde, who played off-the-bench, pulled off a clutch attack that brought the Lady Warriors to match point. Then another error from the Lady Falcons sealed the first win of UE.

Judith Abil carried the scoring load for UE with 22 points. Zilfa Olarve also stepped up with 14 points.

Team captain Eli Soyud scored 20 points for Adamson, but it was not enough to lift the Lady Falcons past the Lady Warriors.
