Tamaraws bounce back, send Archers to second straight loss

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University is back on the win column after defeating De La Salle University, 66-55, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena. 

The Tamaraws led the game in the first half, taking a comfortable 12-point advantage, 36-24. But, the Green Archers were not just about to give up. 

La Salle managed to cut down the deficit to six at the third, 49-43. La Salle kept close until the fourth quarter, 53-59.

But, Wendell Comboy blasted five unanswered points to keep a comfortable 11-point lead, 64-53, as FEU cruised to victory from there. 

“I’m just proud of the way we played today coming off that loss to Ateneo. I’m happy with the way we responded today coming off that loss,” head coach Olsen Racela said post-game. 

Cameroonian big man Patrick Tchuente finished with a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double, along with two blocks, while Comboy totaled with 11 markers. 

For La Salle, Jamie Malonzo led with 20 points and 15 rebounds as he returned from a left wrist injury. Andrei Caracut added 10 markers as they fell for the second straight time and third overall in four games.

FEU 66 – Tchuente 19, Comboy 11, Bienes 9, Ebona 8, Alforque 7, Gonzales 5, Tuffin 4, Torres 3, Cani 0, Nunag 0, Stockton 0.

LA SALLE 55 – Malonzo 20, Caracut 10, Baltazar 6, Serrano 6, Melecio 5, Bates 2, Lojera 2, Meeker 2, Pado 2, Manuel 0.
