Despite the intimidating crowd of the Arellano University, San Sebastian College – Recoletos delivered a stunning performance and overcame the Chiefs, 65-56, Thursday at the Arellano University Gym.

“’Yung intensity nila above normal talaga. But, it’s all about the desire to win. We have to compete and forget about the inconvenience, the advantage, and especially ‘yung home court nila,” said SSC-R Coach Egay Macaraya.

The Chiefs stopped the bleeding in the final quarter and reduced the Golden Stags’ 16-point lead to two in the last seven minutes of the game. The Arellano crowd once again boomed into thunderous cheers.

But the hype also got into Kent Salado, who was called for an unsportsmanlike foul. Golden Stags’ JM Calma took the turn to make a shot by the stripe followed by a triple of Renzo Navarro.

Two minutes left, RK Ilagan’s trey soon extended the Golden Stags’ lead to 11, 61-50. Michael Calisaan ended the match with a basket, silencing the Arellano cheers.

Calisaan led San Sebastian with 12 markers and 13 boards. Allyn Bulunadi and JM Calma both added 10 points.

Meanwhile, Salado was the lone Chief to score a double-figure, which led the Arellano University with 15 points.

The Stags and the Chiefs are now tied at the standings with a 1-1 win-loss record.

San Sebastian will face the Lyceum Pirates on July 21, Friday at 4pm. Arellano University, on the other hand, will take the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers on July 18, Tuesday at 4pm.
