SAN BEDA BOUNCES BACK AND DEFEATS CSB

After a devastating loss to Lyceum Pirates last Friday, the Red Lions bounced back and claimed their second win in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament after crushing the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 76-52 on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

“It’s really their character which led them to bounce back,” said San Beda Coach Boyet Fernandez.

It was a tight contest from the start, 16-15, but the Blazers slowly pulled away due to a dreadful game plays in the next quarters of the game. The Red Lions was able to withdraw from a 21-all deadlock to a 37-24 halftime advantage.

San Beda led as high as 29 points, 76-47 after Clint Doliguez made a basket with two minutes remaining. The Red Lions had 24 points out of the Blazers’ 26 turnovers in the game.

“The guys were really excited, but we needed to move on from that loss,” added Fernandez. “It’s really a test of character on how to bounce back.”

Javee Mocon led San Beda with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Robert Bolick added nine points, 11 rebounds, six assists and two steals. AC Soberano had nine points on a 3-of-6 triples.

St. Benilde was paced by Clement Leutcheu with 10 markers and five boards. Kendrix Belgica and JJ Domingo had eight points apiece.

The Red Lions (2-1) will face the EAC Generals on Friday, July 21, while the St. Benilde Blazers (1-2) takes on Arellano Chiefs on Friday next week, July 28.
