Perpetual wins over struggling JRU for share of 3rd spot

Manila, Philippines – The University of Perpetual Help relied on their excellent triple shooting to claim a 78-72 win against Jose Rizal University in the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament, Tuesday in the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Perpetual now ties with Colegio de San Juan De Letran in third place with a 4-2 slate, while the Heavy Bombers is still looking for that first win, as they sank deeper in the team standings with a 0-7 record.

Jed Mendoza scored seven straight points, capped off by a triple, to put the Heavy Bombers afloat in the final quarter for a 72-69 advantage.

But AJ Coronel answered back with his own triple to put the scores on tie, 72-all, with only two minutes left on the clock. Jelo Razon helped his fellow teammate and sank another triple from his end, 75-72.

JRU could have tied the game again, but Perpetual’s defense stopped them from getting another basket.

With only 33 seconds left on the clock, Razon shot another trey that sealed their win.

Edgar Charcos once again led Perpetual with a near double-double record of 25 points and nine rebounds along with five assists.

Razon added 18 points, six boards and five assists off the bench.

On the other hand, Jose Rizal remains winless in seven games despite Mendoza’s efforts of 21 points and five boards.

Perpetual (78) – Charcos 25, Razon 18, Coronel 16, Eze 7, Aurin 5, Peralta 5, Mangalino 2, Pasia 0, Cuevas 0, Sese 0, Tamayo 0.

JRU (72) – Mendoza 21, Bordon 10, Silvarez 9, Estrella 8, Padua 6, Mallari 5, Dela Virgen 5, Esguerra 4, Santos 2, Aguilar 0, Miranda 0.

Quarter Scores: 18-13, 34-30, 55-46, 78-72.
