Perpetual strengthens Final Four bid, dominates JRU

Manila, Philippines – After their triumphant win last week, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta continues their winning streak after defeating Jose Rizal University, 85-73, in the NCAA Season 94 men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Perpetual Help just made history after defeating Lyceum of the Philippines University, who was unbeaten in the elimination round for two seasons, last Friday.

Thanks to the win, the Altas now stands at an 8-5 slate, giving them a stronger hold of the fourth spot in the team standings with College of St. Benilde. Meanwhile, JRU remains at the bottom of the ladder with a 2-12 win-loss record.

AJ Coronel led Perpetual with a double-double record of 22 points and 11 rebounds on top of two steals.

He made the crucial baskets needed to lead Altas to as much as 14 points advantage in the game and eventually seal the deal.

Jelo Razon added 21 points and five rebounds for the win.

On the other hand, Jed Mendoza led the Heavy Bombers once again with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Leo Esguerra chipped in 21 points in the losing effort.

JRU 73 — Mendoza 22, Esguerra 21, Estrella 10, Aguilar 8, Dela Virgen 3, Mallari 3, David 2, Doromal 2, Silvarez 0, Bordon 0, Padua 0.

Quarter scores: 23-15, 40-36, 67-56, 85-73.
