The De La Salle University Lady Spikers notched solo second in the standings after taking down the University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses in a four-set match, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 26-24, in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament, Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

La Salle had to surpass some hurdles with both their offense and defense in the opening set as they eventually succumbed the first frame to UST no thanks to their own unforced errors.

But after finding their groove in the second set, the Lady Spikers went on a roll with momentum on their side with Desiree Cheng sparking a 10-0 run at the service line in the third frame for a 2-1 advantage.

The defending champions faced some resistance from the Lady Tigresses in the fourth set, but with Eya Laure getting checked at the net by the tall presence of Des Clemente and Aduke Ogunsanya, La Salle escaped the late rally of UST to complete the revenge win against their first-round tormentor.

Team captain Desiree Cheng was all over the court tallying her career-high 20 points on 14 attacks, 3 kill blocks, and 3 service aces, while Aduke Ogunsanya contributed 12 markers including the team-high 4 kill blocks.

Eya Laure and Sisi Rondina combined for 34 attack points out of UST’s 43, but it was overpowered by the 44 unforced errors the team committed.
