The Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals finally made their way into the NCAA Season 93 Men’s basketball tournament and won their debut game against the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 74-64, Friday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

“We had a good preparation against CSB. We prepared for them for the last two weeks,” said EAC Coach Ariel Sison.

Sison said that he has been watching the Blazers play, even when CSB was favored by the NCAA board and was given the win in their match against Perpetual last Tuesday.

The Blazers had no chance of limiting the Generals from scoring, as the lead always increased to a double-digit record as high as 24 points, 61-37.

Despite the EAC’s win, it was still alarming to see the 31 turnovers they committed with several errors were made by each of the players including big man Laminou. Even technical fouls were commonly called for the squad, including Francis Munsayac and veteran Sidney Onwubere.

Cameroonian Hamadou Laminou, who just came back from a torn MCL on his left knee during the pre-season, led the Generals with an almost triple-double record of 21 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks.

Onwubere added a double-double record with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Munsayac had nine points and six assists.

Sadly, no one in the Blazers scored in double-figures. Clement Leutcheu had nine points and eight rebounds.

EAC will play against the Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Tuesday, July 18, while the Blazers will face defending champion San Beda Red Lions on Tuesday as well.
