Benilde surpasses last season record, dumps Arellano for 5th win

Manila, Philippines – The College of St. Benilde is off to a hot streak with back-to-back wins after defeating Arellano University, 70-62, Friday in the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Blazers have surpassed their previous record of 4-14 slate from last season as they now climbed up the ladder with a 5-3 win-loss record.

Justin Gutang boosted the Blazers for a much-needed 10-6 run in the final quarter of the game.

Rence Alcoriza stopped their momentum with a triple that inched Arellano closer, 62-66. However, Edward Dixon and Unique Naboa tied up to get back-to-back points in the last two minutes of the game that shortly sealed the win.

Gutang had 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Prince Carlos chipped in 11 points.

Despite the suspension of Cameroonian Clement Leutcheu, his teammates Yankie Haruna and Kendrix Belgica filled in the gap as they combined for 17 markers and 16 boards.

On the other hand, Alcoriza finished with 14 points, while Maui Sera Josef added 11 points and eight rebounds as Arellano slumped to a 3-4 win-loss record.
