Streaking Ateneo posts 3rd straight win, dumps UE

Manila, Philippines –Ateneo De Manila University fiercely faced University of the East and took an 89-62 win on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Ateneo took an early 14-point lead in the first quarter, 24-10, and never looked back until the end of the first half, 43-31.

The Red Warriors was nowhere near giving up in the third quarter as they took an 8-0 run.

But the Blue Eagles never gave up their double-digit lead anywhere in the game as they even stretched their advantage to as much as 24 points, 68-44.

UE’s efforts were put to waste as Ateneo outscored and outrebounded them.

Raffy Verano led Ateneo with 12 points, even after suffering from a right ankle sprain in the fourth quarter. William Navarro chipped in 11 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Anton Asistio and Jolo Mendoza combined for 18 markers as they stretched their winning games to three.

Meanwhile, Alvin Pasaol once again led the Red Warriors with 17 points and eight rebounds. Wilson Bartolome added 12 markers as UE remains winless after four games in the tournament.
