ARELLANO MAKES A DOUBLE OVERTIME WIN AGAINST JRU

The Arellano Chiefs skidded past the Jose Rizal University in an exhausting second overtime win, 115-109 on Thursday in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Down 100-97 with 2.0 left in the overtime, Kent Salado threw an overhead pass to Zach Nicholls, and Nicholls prayer sent the game into another overtime period.

It was a tough time for the Heavy Bombers entering the second overtime, as Abdulwahab Abdulrazak and Abdoul Poutouochi has both been fouled out of the game. Ervin Grospe, on the other hand has been called out for his fifth personal foul with 4:17 left on the clock and Teytey Teodoro was fouled out with 2:24 ticks left.

“We were able to regroup and we were able to get some energy back sa bench namin,” said Coach Jerry Codinera.

With that, the Chiefs took their chance to make a run in the final five minutes of the game with a 10-0 run, made by Archie Concepcion, Allen Enriquez and Kraniel Viloria, as Kent Salado ended the match with a win.

Rence Alcoriza led Arellano with 23 points, while Salado had 17 points, seven assists and three rebounds. Lervin Flores had a double-double record of 17 points and 11 rebounds, Marwin Taywan added 15 points, while Michael Canete had 12 points and nine rebounds.

On the other hand, Teodoro had a game-high record of 30 points and six rebounds, while Jed Mendoza added 24 points, four rebounds and four assists. Also, Aaron Bordon added 13 points and five rebounds.

The Arellano Chiefs rose to a 4-6 slate in the standings, while JRU Heavy Bombers fell to a 6-4 record after snapping their four-game winning streak.
