Manila, Philippines – Adamson University survived a late rally by the University of the Phillippines to take an 80-72 win in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Soaring Falcons improved their record to an 8-2 slate and now have a sure semis spot in the Final Four berth.

Jerrick Ahanmisi poured down four triples in the third quarter that stretched Adamson’s eight point lead to 52-35. His teammates followed suit and dropped down 33 points in the third period alone to drill the Fighting Maroons off the grid.

Bright Akhuetie and Juan Gomez De Liano shot back-to-back baskets in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to four, 70-74, with only two minutes left on the clock.

But Simon Camacho was just at the right spot under the basket as he grabbed a rebound and passed it to a free Sean Manganti, who then shot another triple for Adamson.

This sealed the deal for Adamson, while UP dropped to a 5-6 win-loss record and tied with Far Eastern University in fifth place in the team standings.

Ahanmisi led Adamson with 24 points, 16 of which came from their 33-point outburst in the third period, along with six rebounds and three assists.

Meanwhile, Jerom Lastimosa added 14 markers, Papi Sarr with 12 and Manganti chipped 10 points and six boards.

Akhuetie, on the other hand, led UP with a 24-point, 15-rebound double-double, while Juan GDL had 15 markers and six boards.
