PASAY — ONE Flyweight Grand Prix finalist Danny Kingad got the better of China’s Xie Wei with a unanimous decision win on ONE: Fire and Fury Friday evening at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The King took overall cage control against the Hunter, who got into the main roster via the Warrior Series, in a bout that was marred by two injury stoppages.
Kingad dictated the opening round with his wide array of attacks, dominating the cage against the The Hunter who had become the hunted against this hostile Pasay crowd.
The second round was much the same but Xie got him on the ground game but was halted when referee Olivier Coste caught the Chinese headbutting Kingad midway through.
In the final round, a longer injury time was called after Xie hit Kingad illegaly with a knee to the back of the head, but it did not affect the scorecards that favored the King that brought the crowd cheering in delight.
Despite the win, Kingad was surprised about Xie’s durability, in contrast to his previous fights where it took only less than a round per contest.
“When I search his name, wala talagang nakitang tumagal sa rounds,” he said on the Chinese, whose recent bout was a win over Filipino fighter Rocky Bactol in the Warrior Series.
