Carlos Alvarez submitted Sadegh “Kurdish Warrior” Ghasemi after only 1:23 of the second round in their Featherweight MMA fight in the curtain raiser of ONE Friday Fights 25 on Friday, June 14 (Manila Time).
The Team Lakay standout showed the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium why he’s called “Limitless”, dominating every aspect of the fight – completely overpowering Ghasemi leading to the D’arce choke win.
Ghasemi may be the natural born wrestler but Alvarez’ aggressiveness and pressure early on forces the Kurdish Warrior to go on the defensive after the latter’s successful full mount early on the night.
Alvarez’ perfect control resulted in an early arm bar submission attempt, but Ghasemi was able to defend and transition into a striking fight.
However, Alvarez also showed his prowess in the striking department, suppressing the clearly drained Ghasemi from the earlier tussle.
The Filipino featherweight standout was able to land a clean left uppercut which then led to another submission attempts before the end of the first round.
Alvarez missed a combination which caused him to slip and gave the Iranian an opening. Yet, Alvarez’ quick thinking enabled him to defend and pin Ghasemi on the ground, forcing him to tap out on a D’arce choke.
The win improves Alvarez’ record to 3-0 while also showing the craftiness and well-roundedness Team Lakay has to offer with its “new blood”.
