CEBU CITY–The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers and the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters made sure they would end their pre-season campaigns with something to celebrate as they beat separate opponents to cop third place honors in the 2019 Cesafi Partners’ Cup last Saturday, August 3, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Baby Lancers came away with an 83-76 triumph over the UC Baby Webmasters, while the Webmasters hacked out a 74-70 win over the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors.
The victory somehow appeased the Baby Lancers who failed to advance to the finals despite enjoying a twice-to-beat bonus against the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in the semifinals.
The Baby Lancers took a 58-48 lead into the final frame and Fritz Banzon and Albert Sacayan sealed the deal for the team by combining for 20 of UV’s 27-point explosion in the fourth.
Banzon topped UV with 24 points, 12 coming in the last stanza. Sacayan added 21 markers, while Meynard Bajo chipped in 10.
King Balaga paced the Baby Webmasters with 18 points, Mac-Z Micutuan donated 14, Luther Leonard contributed 12 while Isaiah Blanco-Hontiveros pitched in 10.
The Baby Lancers and the Webmasters hope to build momentum on their third place finishes as they gun for better showings in the regular season, which fires off on August 31.
