CEBU CITY—The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers ended their season on a winning note after they prevailed in their respective battle-for-third matches on Tuesday, November 19, in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Webmasters turned back the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 57-53, to snatch the third place trophy in the college division, while the Baby Panthers took down the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers, 74-69, to bag their own consolation hardware in the high school decision.
The win somehow eased the pain that the Webmasters suffered in the semifinal round that saw failing to the advance to the Finals after squandering a twice-to-beat incentive against the three-time defending champions UV Green Lancers.
Tosh Sesay led the Webmasters with 18 points while Shane Menina tallied 14 markers.
USC was led by Kurt Trangia, who fired 12 points. Nigerian big man Sommy Managor contributed 11 markers.
The Baby Panthers, on the other hand, used a balanced attack to send the Baby Lancers crashing to a disappointing finish after being touted as one of the pre-tournament favorites.
Jack Suello and Elijah Singson scattered eight points each for the Baby Panthers, while Kyle Ochavo and Christopher Isabelo each had seven
Dave Basalo led the Baby Lancers with 20 points, Samuel Melicor pitched in 15 and Zylle Cabellon had 10.
