CEBU CITY–The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters bucked a slow start to post an 80-74 win over the University of San Jose- Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars on Saturday, October 12, in the college division of the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

Foreign student-athlete Tony Sesay had a monster outing, tallying 29 points, 29 rebounds and two blocks to lead the Webmasters’ fourth win in seven games.

UC had a sloppy start in its first game in the second round of elimination and stared at a 16-29 deficit in the early goings.

The Webmasters were still down, 34-40, in the third before they finally got into groove, staging a 26-15, run to surge ahead, 60-52.

UC went on to build an 18-point cushion, 76-58, and the best USJ-R could do was to move with 72-76 with only 1:02 left.

Darrel Shane Menina added 17 points, five boards and six assists for UC, while John Jabello added 11.

Miguel Gastador netted 26 points for the Jaguars, who lost for the sixth time in eight outings.

In the other game, the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras pulled off a vengeful 74-53 win over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats to remain unbeaten in the second round.

The Cobras led from start to finish to avenge their 62-67 loss to the Wildcats in the first round.

Lamine Thiam collected 17 points, 18 rebounds, four steals, two blocks and an assist as SWU moved up to 6-2–good for second place behind the 6-1 University of the Visayas Green Lancers.

Red Cachuela added 11 points and eight rebounds while Kent Sanchez came off the bench to deliver 12 markers for SWU.

Jesse Aloro Jr. had 17 points and Jemcerson Sable donated 15 for CIT-U, which fell to 1-6.
