After a devastating season opening game last Tuesday, Teytey Teodoro reclaimed his spot at the top after scoring a double-digit record and led the Heavy Bombers to win against the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 68-54, Friday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Teodoro, who was limited to 13 points on their game against Lyceum scored a season-high 26 points, seven boards and three assists.
“Nag-double effort lang talaga ako ngayon. Kasi disappointed kaming mga beterano nung first game,” said Teodoro.
JRU Coach Vergel Meneses praised the veteran, and expects to increase his assists average as well to boost his teammates.
“Dati, wala siyang assists, but today he got three. Every time that he involves his teammates, they also gain confidence,” added Meneses.
The Atlas cut JRU’s lead to five points when Teodoro boosted the squad with a 14-5 run to stop the opponent from reaching the winning end. Teodoro shot two treys in the rally while Abdoul Poutuouchi ended the game with two additional baskets and made the game-high 14-point lead, 66-52.
A better team emerged against Perpetual today and Meneses was proven wrong from saying that JRU might not win this season last Tuesday. He felt that the players finally regained themselves in today’s match.
Poutuouchi added 13 points and seven rebounds while Gio Lasquety had 11 points.
JG Ylagan, meanwhile, led the Atlas with 12 markers and three boards. Prince Eze added a double-double 12 points and 16 rebounds.
JRU now have a 1-1 win-loss record and will face Arellano University on July 18 at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Perpetual remains winless as their win against CSB was forfeited due to wearing a wrong jersey. They will face Mapua University on July 20.
