In what could be the biggest upset so far this season, the Adamson University Lady Falcons stunned the defending champions De La Salle University Lady Spikers in four sets, 25-18, 15-25, 25-19, 25-22 in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, Saturday, at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.
Adamson and La Salle convincingly got the first and second set respectively.
But the turning point of the match was when the Lady Falcons were down by five points in the third set, 11-16, then shocked the Lady Spikers with a 6-0 runto steal the lead at 17-16. Fhen Emnas committed a setting error which tied the game, but it hardly mattered as Joy Dacoron came alive with running attacks to give the finishing touch and to close out the set.
It was almost the same story in the fourth frame when La Salle had a 9-5 lead, only to lose it with an impressive 12-1 run by Adamson with Mylene Paat’s turn to punish the defense of the Lady Spikers with consecutive angled attacks from the opposite side.
La Salle tried to regain control and managed to cut down the huge lead, 22-24, but Jema Galanza sealed the upset win for Adamson with an off-the-block attack.
Former Lasallian Eli Soyud led Adamson andscored 18 points against her former team. Veterans Mylene Paat and Joy Dacoron stepped up andconnived for 30 markers to relieve the scoring duty from the shoulder of Jema Galanza who only had 10 points.
La Salle suffered their second loss in just one week and dropped to a 4-2 win-loss record.
Player of the Game: Eli Soyud, 18(13 attacks, 3 blocks, and 2 service aces)
