The Zamboanga siblings of Denice and Drex expressed their excitement when they will be on the same billing, as they take on separate Thai foes in A New Breed coming up on Friday night behind closed doors.
Both The Menace and the debuting T-Rex are battling formidable foes in their respective three-rounders in mixed martial arts, in which the former was ecstatic to be with him on the same fight card and were already in Bangkok at the homestretch of their preparations.
“I’m very excited for my next fight. This card is also special because I get to perform on the same night as my older brother Drex,” said Denice, who will take on former Thai judo champ Watsapinya Kaewkong in the atomweight division. “Hopefully, we will both be successful in both of our fights.”
Despite the good-natured intention to fight Watsapinya just to stay active, Denice still has her sights on the reigning ONE Atomweight Champion. And with that, she has taken her training very seriously.
“At this level, every opponent is top notch. Once everything goes back to normal, I know I will meet Angela Lee at some point,” she said.
On the other side of the fence, T-Rex will make his ONE debut at the stacked flyweight division against Detchadin Sornsirisuphathin, and the expectations are high for the 27-year old who is holding the bantamweight belts in the URCC.
“I’m glad to be in ONE Championship, making my debut. I’m happy and this is the first time me and Denice will be on a huge card together,” he said.
With their training going well, Drex will have his hands full as he has to take his fighting to the next level in a loaded weight class, where reigning champion Adriano Moraes and the legendary Demetrious Johnson still rule the flyweight roost.
“It’s a completely different level. The ONE flyweight division is stacked with amazing talent, including my idol Demetrious Johnson, so I’m inspired by the possibilities. I welcome whatever challenges may come.”
