CEBU CITY—With foreign reinforcement Tosh Sesay leading the charge, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters secured a critical twice-to-beat incentive in the Final Four after they took down the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 81-72, in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament last Thursday, November 7, at the Cebu Coliseum.
Sesay of Sierra Leone came up with a monstrous performance as he coughed up 21 points, 21 rebounds, two steals and blocks to lead the Webmasters’ eighth win in 11 games that assured the squad a top two finish after the double-round eliminations.
Tournament format states that the top two seeds in the semifinals will be twice-to-beat over their lower-ranked foes.
Making life easier for Sesay was the ample local crew support with Darrell Shane Menina and John Jabelllo also playing big.
Menina wound up with 18 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Jabello added 11, six of them he made in 13-2 blitz that helped UC put CIT-U away.
After leading as many as 19, the Webmasters allowed the Wildcats to creep back in and saw their lead reduce to just six, 65-59, in the final five minutes of the contest.
Menina and Jabello then took over, conspiring in that critical endgame run to save the Webmasters.
Jesse Aloro Jr. fired 23 points and Jamcerson Sable added 18 for CIT-U, which tasted its eighth defeat in 11 outings.
