Manila, Philippines – Archrivals San Beda University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran clashed hard in their first game in the season and only one team came on top.
And that team is the roaring Red Lions, who took an 80-76 overtime win against Letran Knights in the NCAA Season 94 senior’s basketball tournament, Friday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
San Beda continued their winning streak as they gained their fifth victory in as many games, while Letran halted theirs with a 4-2 win-loss record.
The reigning champions showed their dominance in the game as they led most of it, but the Knights countered back in the fourth salvo, which eventually led to overtime.
It was a head-on clash between the two teams.
With only a minute left on the clock, Jerrick Balanza managed to keep Letran up by two, but it was only a matter of time before Robert Bolick tipped in another basket for San Beda and Javee Mocon found Donald Tankoua under the basket to seal their victory.
AC Soberano shot all his six points in the overtime period, followed by the heroic duo of Bolick and Tankoua, who shot all the remaining baskets that sealed their win.
Bolick had a double-double record of 20 point and 11 rebounds on top of his six assists and Tankoua added another with 11 markers and 13 boards.
Doliguez also chipped in 11 points for the win.
On the other hand, despite his great efforts, Bong Quinto’s game-high record of 21 points, 11 rebounds and four assists was not enough to boost his team take the win.
