The Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles got the better of the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons with a straight set victory, 25-15, 25-14, 25-15, to win the second episode of the Battle of Katipunan in the UAAP women’s volleyball, March 11, Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
It was Ateneo who ended the four-game winning streak of UP back in the first round, and now that UP was on a three-game skid coming into the game, it was their chance to get back on the win column against the same team which started their skid.
Ateneo, however, had things in their mind as they proved why there are currently the number one attacking team in the league, continuing to be unstoppable offensively with 44 well-distributed attack points.
The Lady Maroons only tallied two blocks, as the offense of Ateneo was unpredictable thanks to Jia Morado who, despite Ateneo’s shaky reception, was still able to execute plays, finishing the match with 38 excellent sets.
After a low output in their match against La Salle, Jhoana Maraguinot top scored for Ateneo with 17 big points, while Kat Tolentino and Mich Morente combined for 19 markers.
UP did not have any player in double-digits as Isa Molde was held down to just 8 points.
Player of the Game: Jia Morado, 38 excellent sets and 5 points
