Mandaue, Talisay boost semis bids in Gov’s Cup hoops

CEBU CITY—The Mandaue City Ballers and the defending champions Talisay City Aquastars continued their rampage to stay atop in their respective brackets of the 2019 Governor’s Cup Under21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night, April 24.

Mandaue tightened its hold of the number one spot in Bracket by demolishing Samboan, 103-84.

The Ballers climbed to 4-0 (win-loss), while dealing Samboan its fourth defeat in five matches.

Talisay likewise surged to 4-0 that firmed up its grip of the top spot in Bracket B as they tripped Sogod, 83-73.

Sogod dropped to 0-5.

The hot streaks put Mandaue and Talisay in good positions to advance to the next round as the top two squads in each bracket will move to the semifinals.

Balamban stayed close with Mandaue as it listed its fourth win against one loss via a tight 90-88 overtime win over Danao City.

Danao fell to 1-3.

The Minglanilla Archangels, on the other hand, picked up a crucial win in Bracket B as they trounced Alegria, 103-79.

Minglanilla improved to 3-2, while Alegria slid to 1-3.

Scoring an equally crucial win were the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, who prevailed over Tuburan, 90-76.

The win created a two-way logjam at second spot in Bracket B as Consolacion and Tuburan now tote similar 3-1 slates.
