University of the Philippines Lady Maroons dropped a set for the first time this season but quickly retaliated en route to their fourth straight win against the University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses, 25-22, 25-22, 29-31, 25-19, Sunday, February 19 at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.
After getting the first two sets, the Lady Maroons found themselves down in the third frame, 19-23, before starting a 5-0 run which put them at match point.
Marian Buitre then produced a service error that gave a chance to the Lady Tigresses to extend the set, which they eventually won thanks to the tandem of Rondina and Laure that kept UST alive.
UP seemed to have lost its momentum after a strong start by UST in the fourth set, 6-2, but they showed composure and entered the first technical timeout with the lead, 8-6.
Banking on the sloppy floor defense of the Lady Tigresses, UP regained its confidence and never looked back to stay perfect, with a service ace from reigning Rookie of the Year Isa Molde finishing the match.
Tots Carlos was the top scorer for UP with 18 points, with Nicole Tiamzon and Isa Molde contributing 13 and 14 points respectively.
EJ Laure finished with 18 points for UST while Sisi Rondina and Chloe Cortez had 12 points apiece.
Player of the Game: Arielle Estranero, 53 excellent sets and 3 service aces
