After four outings, the UE Lady Warriors and Adamson Lady Falcons remain the only teams who are still winless in their respective campaigns in the UAAP season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.

Just last Saturday, February 18, both UE and Adamson suffered its fourth consecutive loss at the hands of FEU and Ateneo respectively, 25-18, 25-22, 25-27, 25-11 and 25-19, 25-18, 25-13, at the FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan.

UE was able to steal an extended set from the Lady Tamaraws with sophomore Mean Mendrez and Shaya Adorador doing the damage.  FEU then quickly recovered in the next set to finish the match which gave them a 2-2 record.

It was a different story though for the struggling Lady Falcons who have not won a single set yet this season.

Ateneo veterans Michelle Morente, Bea de Leon, and Jhoana Maraguinot did their usual business against the Lady Falcons combining for 26 points.

The Lady Falcons were holding on in the first and second sets, keeping the match close before letting Ateneo pull away halfway through the set.

The San Marcelino squad seemed to have given up in the third set which gave the former head coach of Adamson who is now the assistant coach of Ateneo Sherwin Meneses the opportunity to display the bench players of Lady Eagles where Ana Gopico, Ria Lo, Deanna Wong, Ponggay Gaston saw action.

UE and Adamson are looking to improve their record but it will be tough for both as they will have to go through the last season’s finalist Ateneo and La Salle respectively.

Players of the Game: Bernadette Pons (FEU), 17 points and Jia Morado (ADMU), 43 excellent sets.
