Ervin Grospe exploded for the Jose Rizal University to boost the squad and win against Emilio Aguinaldo College, 77-48 on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Grospe scored 10 points in the opening frame to lead the Heavy Bombers until the second period to keep the squad out of reach from the Generals as EAC was limited to 11 points only in the second quarter, 37-21.
The Heavy Bombers lead extended to as much as 35 points in the third period, 65-30.
“If this team (EAC) were playing to its potential, hindi na ako matatakot sa kung sino man ang makalaban namin. Sa JRU ako takot,” said Coach Vergel Meneses.
EAC was cut short with only 23 percent from the field and 36 percent in the free throw line.
Grospe finished with 19 points for EAC, while Jed Mendoza added 15 points. Abdul Sawat had 10 points and nine rebounds, while Abdoul Poutouochi and MJ Dela Virgen, who mad crucial baskets in the second quarter, finished with a combined 15 points.
Poutouochi had 10 rebounds along with his nine points, while Abdulwahab Abdulrazak had 12 rebounds.
Jeric Diego led EAC Generals with 13 points.
JRU climbed to a 3-3 slate in the team standings, while EAC fell to 3-4.
The Heavy Bombers will try to continue their win against Saint Benilde Blazers on Friday, while EAC will take on San Sebastian Golden Stags on the same day.
