CEBU CITY—The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers continued their mastery over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, pulling off a one-sided 92-70 win on Thursday, June 27, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Federation Inc. (CESAFI) Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.
The showdown was a rematch of last year’s Cesafi Finals that saw the Green Lancers conquering the Jaguars in their best-of-three series, 2-1. The title run completed a rare three-peat and sealed the Green Lancers’ league-best 13th crown.
In the pre-season match, UV was dominant again, easily dispatching USJ-R to stay undefeated after three games.
Melvin Butohan led the way for the Green Lancers with with 23 points and was ably backed by Froiland Maglasang, who donated 15.
Foreign reinforcement Arnold Azangue paced the Jaguars with 15 points, while Elmer Echavez contributed 12.
It was the Jaguars second loss against the same number of wins.
In the secondary division, the USJ-R Baby Jaguars nipped the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens, 80-57.
