Despite parading an incomplete lineup, the University of Sto. Tomas Lady Tigresses swept the Adamson University Lady Falcons in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, 25-9, 31-29, 25-19, Sunday at FilOil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.
UST needed to dig deep into their bench as the rookie Milena Alessandrini and libero Rica Rivera are both recuperating from injuries, fielding in Carla Sandoval and Dimdim Pacress in the first six.
The Lady Tigresses stunned Adamson in the first set, limiting the Lady Falcons to just a single-digit output. The ‘real’ Adamson squad we have seen in their past two gamescame back in the second set when they finally had the solution to the strong defense of UST as they led, 24-21.
But it was a lucky day for UST as after Rondina came up with an off-the-block hit, Adamson committed two consecutive attack errors that kept the Lady Tigresses alive, 24-all. UST then dragged Adamson into a toe-to-toe battle by saving the next four set points. Two consecutive attacks by Rondina finalized the comeback attempt of UST.
Brimming with confidence, UST just continued their momentum in the third set to complete the sweep.
The number one scorer in the league Sisi Rondina once again exploded with 22 points. Dimdim Pacres helped in the scoring department with a career-high 13 points while Carla Sandoval contributed 9 markers.
The Lady Falcons were obviously not in their usual selves as they gave away free 12 service aces to UST, considering that thy are currently the number one team in receiving.
Player of the Game: Sisi Rondina, 22 points (17 attacks, 1 block, 4 service aces)
