CEBU CITY– The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars and the ARQ Builders-Univeristy of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers took off to rousing starts after they blasted their respective opponents in the high school division of the 2019 CESAFI Partner’s Cup, which got underway last Saturday, June 8, at the University of San Carlos (USC) Gym.
The Baby Jaguars spoiled the Cesafi debut of University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM), 88-64, while the Baby Lancers posted their own lopsided victory by smashing the Cebu Elite-USC Baby Warriors, 89-66.
Delcer Gaviola fired 16 points to lead the balanced attack of the Baby Jaguars, who had four double-digit scorers.
UCLM was led by Daryl Guerrero and Kirt Jalalon, who combined for 29 points.
John Banzon and Justin Casas, on the other hand, topped the Baby Lancers with 14 points each, while Maynard Bajo chipped in 13.
In the college division, Cebu Landmaster-USC turned back the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 70-61, while the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras stung the USJ-R Jaguars, 81-72.
Froilan Mangubat dropped six triples to finish with 23 points as the Warriors heat up in the second half to seal the win. Sommy Managor backed Mangubat with 15 points.
EJ Villarta was the lone Panther to score in twin digits with 13.
Red Cachuela, meanwhile, led the way for the Cobras with 17 points, while Senegalese reinforcement Lamine Thiam netted 16 markers. Randyll Roncal also scored in double figures for SWU with 10.
Jay Deiparine paced USJ-R with 13 points while Tricky Peromingan and Matthew Paras donated 10 apiece.
